I Missed A Few: Games for Demo at Gen Con from the Gulf Coast
I am so used to looking at the BGG convention previews, that I forget that some publishers use other ways of marketing. So, I was remiss in my recent blog about games that I recommend people demo at Gen Con this weekend. Here’s three more companies to check out that have a proximity to our beloved Gulf Coast. Note that all three are big supporters of Southern Board Game Fest (“SoBo”).

First up, our friends from Hutchu Games, who are demoing Playground Empires all weekend (check out the schedule here.) I have already played Playground Empires, through a wonderful teach from local Acadiana area designer, Sterling Birdwell, back at SoBo this past March.
It’s an area control game with a twist — players are elementary school grades (I played the Third Graders, small but very fast) battling for supremacy on the local playground. It’s a good one and heading to crowdfunding soon.

Next up, our buddy Josh from Spoonbill Games here in Acadiana is doing more demos of Coalition: Councils of the Republic.
I see from the Gen Con event listing that Josh is even showing off and playtesting some new expansion content for Coalition (which already funded on KS and should be heading to backers soon). I’ve played this one, too, on stream with Josh, and it was a blast.
A lot of the demos are sold out, but I see that there are a couple of slots still available this weekend so jump aboard.

We can’t forget our friends from Weird Giraffe Games from right down I-10. Carla and Nick will be there with a ton of games to show off at their booth, but they also have playthroughs of Reef & Ruins and as well as my favorite game from them, Studies in Sorcery. But not only that, I think they will be demoing the brand new Effervescent and Flockton of Flamingos and Surplus of Sloths (from Ringyo designer, Charlie McCarron) to show off at Booth 2606. I’ve played almost all of these games and I can definitely recommend that you at least make a pass to check them out. (Plus, I hear Charlie will be doing some personal demos if you check the schedule.)
Did I miss any other Gulf Coast game designers and publishers? Let me know as I have some spies in Indy already!
Until next time, laissez les bon temps rouler!
