Jeremy’s Gaming Gratons: NEMESIS with VOID SEEKERS expansion
Board Game Gumbo is pleased to present another game night recap with Jeremy Dobler. This time, we have a two-fer! Jeremy looks at NEMESIS, a thematic semi-cooperative game from designer, Adam Kwapiński, and published by Awaken Realms. These are Jeremy’s thoughts on playing NEMESIS with the VOID SEEKERS expansion. For our thoughts on another great Adam Kwapiński game, check out our playthrough of Origins: First Builders:
So close, yet so far.
My given objective was to finish the game in an Escape Pod, or Hibernatorium with an Intruder Egg. Unfortunately for me, the Nest was in the literally last, unexplored space on the ship, right next to the Cockpit.

I did very well with only a single intruder spawning the entire game, save for two Lairs, which are these ‘hit points’ for the Queen of the Void Seeders, the Despoiler, as you can’t normally or directly attack that creature. Only by destroying these Lair tokens can you kill it permanently. I even got two out of three of the engines functional, and the ship pointed towards earth.
Unfortunately, I just didn’t get that egg that I needed to escape and complete my mission before time ran out, which means the ship jumped to light speed and I was immediately killed by the g-force. Sounds like it leads directly into the Carnomorphs expansion, lol.

The Void Seeders are interesting as they may or may not be purely in your mind, at least the flavor text leads you to believe that. You replace your slime space with this Insanity track, and there’s an extra deck called Panic that you periodically draw from resolving something horrible if you meet or exceed the threshold.
Overall I enjoy these aliens, and think I’d rank them second among the three for the OG game, with the Carnomorphs being my first choice, and the OG Intruders being last, simply because they are the most vanilla and straightforward. The Void Seeders are pretty cool, but naturally would work better with more characters, since a few of the event cards reference other characters, and since I’m alone in Solo, they weren’t as effective.
Just a little something to chew on — Jeremy
