Jeremy’s Gaming Gratons: Returning to GALACTIC CRUISE

Board Game Gumbo is pleased to present another game night recap with Jeremy Dobler. This time, Jeremy returns to a board game he covered in a previous blog post, GALACTIC CRUISE!

Finally a full playthrough of Galactic Cruise!

But first, a bit of context: Last year, myself, Doug, and Logan went on a journey to play all of the Vital Lacerda Eagle Gryphon Deluxe games. It came down to the wire, but we closed it out with Vinhos on December 29th, 2024.

These games from Lacerta have not been for the faint of heart; they require a time commitment to learn, teach, and play. Doubly so if you want to do well at them, or get more than one or two plays in. I personally played most of them two-to-five times just to get a firm grasp on them: sometimes two-handed, other times roping my wife into a learning game. Good thing for our group, part of my enjoyment of the hobby is learning beefy titles like the Lacerda games.

So what does this have to do with Galactic Cruise? As I’d mentioned in a previous post, with this game, Kinson Key Games has created a love letter to Lacerda. This time around I was able to build up a fairly successful spaceship cruise line, getting all of my Development Cogs off my board by the end of the game for a whopping 30 points.

I was surprised at how, despite all of us taking different approaches to gameplay, the scores of the three players were all roughly within ten points of each other: 144, 153, and 156 for myself, Logan, and Doug respectively. Interestingly enough, Doug did the Doug thing and won on the first real game.

Kinson Key Games is certainly one to be on the lookout for. I’m excited to see where they take their ship next!
